FRANK WOODSTOCK, K1DWU of Pittsfield became a silent key on September 25. (He was 70 yrs old) Frank was a fixture on the 146.910 repeater on Mt. Greylock. It seems inconceivable for us that he will not be answering our calls again. He was always there to give a signal report, friendly words of encouragement, or to just chit-chat. Many times Frank answered calls for folks who were in trouble out in the mobiles. He would call home for them or contact the authorities for help. You could always count on Frank to be there.
Frank's many services to the club included "talk-in" for various Nobarc events; he also stood by at parades with his hand held to help with communications should he be needed. He also enjoyed participation in the Fox Hunts we held this past year. He would listen to the Fox on the input and help the hounds guess where the signal was coming from, by turning his beam. Frank had a good ear and many times he was able to pin point the location.
Frank spent many years working for the City of Pittsfield School Dept. as their audio-visual equipment repairman - only retiring a couple of years ago. Frank was able to talk on 91 during the day from school when he wasn't busy. Many friendships were developed on the air with Frank over the years. He will be missed by us all!
Frank left his wife, Ellen of many years, his daughter Tracy Woodstock (KA1KUV) his son John Woodstock (N2HAA) and Brianna, his grandaughter.
Next September, 1998 Nobarc will dedicate a Fox Hunt in memory of Frank. Also there will be a plaque installed on the Nobarc bunker door on Mt. Greylock with K1DWU, to join the two dozen or so hams who are presently commmemorated there. So long old pal!!
